Articles
Becoming a reporter for my school's news site my sophomore year, and later the Content Editor the following year, I've gotten the chance to write and report freely on the events of my school, and any broader stories I wish to work on. Below I've linked my work of articles, also entailing other works of multimedia storytelling.
Matthew Gray Gubler's "Big Green Hand, Small Town Tour"
On the release of his new book, Matthew Gray Gubler visited LVA to share his new work with students. Covering the celebrity guest's appearance I reported on the event. Starting with the perspective of excited students, and eventually getting the chance to interview Gubler himself and capture all sides of this big story.

Students and Staff Share Their Feelings About the Enforcement of the LVA Citizenship Policy
3rd place for news story in Review Journal Journalism Awards
After the principle's enforcement of a policy previously ignored at my school was enforced, it caused a large controversy among both students and staff. The controversy was continuously debated and there were many misunderstandings. From a journalist's perspective I found it important to learn more about the situation, discover and share the many perspectives, and make clarifications on the subject.
“Whatever you do, DO NOT read the banned books,” LVA Librarian Shelby Guinn on Banned Books Week
International banned books week campaign which celebrates reading freedom around the world, was also being celebrated in my own school's library with a banned books display. Upon discovering this I found it important to report on and publicize a worldwide, relevant issue of which I care a lot about, and gain the perspective of our school's librarian on the subject.
30 Murals for the 30th Anniversary: LVA Showcases and Celebrates The School’s Value of Art
At LVA there is always something going on. At this time one of the biggest things going on happened to be the creation and installation of 30 murals around campus. With the work of many poured into this process, I found it to be an important and meaningful change actively coming about to our campus that would last for years to come, and the documentation of such change important to cover.
Shine a Light [Video and article multimedia piece]
In the midst of initiating a project on homelessness for a journalistic competition, I came across a local nonprofit organization that does such amazing work, I decided their individual story was a vital one to tell. Responsible for the aid of over 1140 homelessness individuals, Shine a Light's amazing program changes lives every day. I made a 10 minute video that takes an inside look at their program and cowrote an article with a brief overview on their role in the community.
Who can you trust?
As a journalist who tries to consistently keep up with the news for my own benefit, I firsthand experience not knowing who to trust when searching for news. In creating this multimedia piece in which I evaluate a variety of resources depicting media bias in some of the most known news channels, I aimed to go on my own research journey for where I personally will look for my source of news, while also creating an article that will provide others with benenficial resources to evaluate and do the same for themselves.
LVA students stand up for their teachers in walkout
This was one of the earliest and biggest newsworthy events of the year, and of course an important one to document at my school. But it was also a cause I personally had an attachment to and I found it important to make sure that as this issue became a bigger conversation, that the facts and trusted information were available to allow those intrigued to educate themselves on the situation.
