From covering the daily events of my school to whatever I think is important to showcase to the world. Writing is where my passion for journalism began, and as I've grown, I've gotten better in enriching my pieces with multimedia aspects like broadcast stories, graphics, and photo essays to more clearly and powerfully share an important story.
Photography was my second journalistic love and has come to be one of my favorites. I almost never go anywhere without my camera, always waiting for a moment to capture. I especially love doing street photography and capturing the beauties of everyday life and humanity.
I had always wanted to start a podcast and never knew how to begin, but after finally going at it, it's become one of the works I am proudest of. With my best friend as my cohost, we've created carefully crafted episodes that reveal the hard work, love, and challenge behind all that goes on at our school. It's given me the opportunity to challenge myself, meet so many cool people, and contribute to a community that is very special to me.
Living in the digital age of a world taken over by technology has forever changed the face of journalism. Adapting to this is learning how to tell a story in a snapshot and using social media to your advantage. While my personal favorite work is where I can do more, stories told in a snapshot are often what reach the most people. In realizing this I've learned to strategize in how to efficiently create social media pieces that tell just as good a story as an article or broadcast piece.
BREAKING NEWS
For an article all it takes is a computer to write on, but for broadcast stories much more is required. In our very small multimedia program growing from the ground up, broadcast is not as easy, but it has always been something I am passionate about. Figuring out how to create broadcast stories has been a challenge and a great joy in seeing the results (even if there is much progress left to be made.)
One of the most valuable things to come of my journey with journalism was the realization that there is a greater need for access to journalism education in my community. That is why I decided to establish Behind the Lens. With a mission to capture change and empower futures, Behind the Lens continues to grow and makes me a better journalist in the process.
